44TH CIL SAFETY BOARD MEETING CONCLUDES

  • 44TH CIL Safety Board meeting was held at Kolkota on 7th August 2008. Shri N C Jha, Dir(Tech.), CIL presided the meeting in the absence of Chairman, CIL.

During his address Shri Man Mohan Sharma, DGMS said :-

    · Fatal accidents increased from 33 in 2007 to 38 in the year 2008.
    · Dumpers & Truck accidents increased.
    · If management of CIL cannot control its contractors and their workers, there is no point in outsourcing work in Coal Industry.
    · 8 hours work to be strictly complied.
    · Accidents of contractors’ workers are 25%. This is too high.
    · Accidents of regular workers are 75%.
    · Accidents increase due to large scale deployment of contractors’ workers in OC Mines.
    · 25% accidents occur due to roof fall.
    · There is no quality assurance of roof bolt and capsule. Inferior quality capsules to be outrightly rejected. In watery strata cement capsules should not be used instead use resin capsule.
    · CIL require 41 Man Riding System but it has only 10. This is a very sorry state.
    · Minister agreed to monitor health of workers every year instead of 5 years.
